FAQs
What makes your sourdough different from supermarket bread?
Most supermarket bread is made in hours using commercial yeast, refined flour and a list of additives to extend shelf life. Our bread is different at every stage - naturally leavened with a wild starter, slow-fermented for a minimum of 18 hours, made with organic stoneground flours, and baked without any improvers, preservatives or artificial ingredients. The result tastes different, keeps differently, and feels different to eat.
Is sourdough gluten-free?
No. All of our loaves contain gluten as they are made with wheat flour. However, the long fermentation process breaks down some of the proteins in the dough, which many people find makes it easier to digest than commercially yeasted bread.
If you have coeliac disease or a serious gluten intolerance, our bread is not suitable for you. If you have a mild sensitivity, we'd recommend speaking to your GP before ordering.
What allergens are in your bread?
All of our loaves contain wheat (gluten). Some loaves also contain sesame and other mixed seeds. Our bread is baked in a kitchen that handles gluten, seeds and nuts.
If you have a food allergy or specific dietary requirement, please get in touch before placing an order and we'll do our best to help.
When do you bake, and when do orders close?
We bake every Friday in small batches. Orders open each week and close on Wednesday evening. This gives us time to prepare your loaf properly - no rushing, no shortcuts.
Order by Wednesday to guarantee your Friday loaf.
How do I collect my order?
Once you've placed your order, we'll be in touch with your collection details by text message. Collection is local to Berkshire - if you're unsure whether you're within range, drop us a message before ordering.
Do you offer local delivery?
Yes. We deliver locally to Staines, Egham, Englefield Green, Windsor and Datchet. Delivery is £2 flat fee on orders over £10.
Deliveries are made on Fridays alongside our baking day.
How long does the bread last and how should I store it?
Our bread is best eaten within 3-4 day of baking. Store it cut-side down on a board or wrapped loosely in a cloth or paper bag - avoid plastic, which softens the crust.
It freezes brilliantly. Slice before freezing and toast straight from frozen for bread that tastes almost fresh-baked.
Can I order regularly - do you offer a subscription?
We do offer a weekly Bread Club subscription - select the option from the drop down for delivery or available for collection each Friday. It's the easiest way to make sure you never miss a bake.
Do you supply to shops or restaurants?
Yes - Our breads are available to order via Wylde Market and The Kitchen Wraysbury. We're actively building relationships with local farm shops and independent retailers across Berkshire and Surrey. If you're a stockist or buyer interested in carrying The Considered Loaf , we'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch via our contact page.
